Prof. Gloria Obuzor
She served her mandatory National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in 1981 at the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry (PIC), University of Port Harcourt and was retained by the University after her NYSC service as a Graduate Assistant. She went through the rank and file to become a Professor in 2012 and was the Head of Department (PIC) in 2014 and 2016-2018. Her research areas are in organic synthesis and phytochemistry where the rich flora of Nigeria is explored for nutraceutical. Her current research includes green synthesis of Nanoparticles for waste water treatment and health care. Prof. Obuzor who has a propensity for product development is the proud producer of Ukalina Wines (White and Red) produced from local fruits. She is a consultant in chemical safety and security.
Prof. Obuzor is the Vice-President, Federation of African Societies of Chemistry (FASC), a member of: American Chemical Society (ACS), Royal Society of Chemistry, Committee of Chemistry Education of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and an Associate member of International Activity Committee of ACS. She is the Nigerian National Adhering Officer of IUPAC, and a National Representative of Division VI of IUPAC. Prof. Obuzor who joined the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) in 1986 became a life member in 1991 and a Fellow in 2008. She was the first female Chairman of CSN (2003) and is the first female President of CSN in its forty-six years of existence but the 13th President of CSN. She established Women In Chemistry (WIC) in Nigeria where the main focus is the Girl Child ‘’Cradle to Grave’’ She is a trainer in the production of essential household goods.
